I’m hosting the official Hope & Glory Pastry launch party at Bows + Arrows/Spartan at 215 South Lamar Blvd. this Saturday, June 12th. The event will be from Noon to 4PM. There will be loads of pastries for you to sample (free!!) and drinks to wash it all down with (free!!) and uh-mazing shopping if you desire (not free, but worth every penny!!).

Introducing Hope & Glory Pastry!

Okay, okay… this is maybe not the first you’ve heard of Hope & Glory Pastry. After all, I’ve been making and selling pastry all over Austin since April.

However, I’ve not had the opportunity to formally introduce myself. I’m Jesse, formerly the designer for Amet & Sasha. After years of wanting to toss my sewing machine aside for flour and my KitchenAid, I finally took the leap. In 2007 I unchained myself from my Singer and started to plan for the future. First I started a little blog, then I quit my job, moved to San Francisco and went to pastry school. I came home and got myself a cooking gig here. And finally, I moved on from that to start my own pastry company, Hope & Glory Pastry.

I’m pretty excited about this endeavor. I’ve launched with five pastries which I’m currently selling around Austin. Brown butter and sea salt make the shortbread rich and deliciously haunting. Praline candy and fleur de sel top meltingly rich polvorones. Rugelach are spiked with a smoky chipotle kick. The infamous Magic Bar features honey and pecans atop a salty sweet sable breton crust, all drizzled with 70% El Rey chocolate. And finally, the gluten-free Meringue Épice steers clear of the mundane, combining nuts, coconut and meringue with cumin, coriander and black pepper for a sweet that teases the tastebuds with seductive savory elements. A bonus is that all of the pastries use local farm-raised eggs, organic pecans and honey.

Craft Corps Signing at Renegade Craft Fair!

This just in! I’m going to be doing the very 1st Craft Corps book signing this weekend at the Renegade Craft Fair in Austin. Come on down and see me on Sunday at 1:00p at the Stitch Lab booth–don’t be late, because I’ll only have 25 copies to sell!

Oh but wait, there’s more! Everyone who buys Craft Corps there or brings me one to sign they’ve purchased elsewhere, will get a free ball of NaturallyCaron.com’s Country or Spa yarn and the scarf pattern seen below (while supplies last). I’ll also have “Proud Craft Corps Member” buttons to give out! Can’t beat that, eh?

There were several Austinites either featured or profiled in Craft Corps and I know that at least a few of them will be at the fair, too. Look for Naughty Secretary Club’s Jennifer Perkins, Jenny Hart of Sublime Stitching and Average Jane Crafter, Rachel Hobson!

Craft fair’s a-coming!

Renegade Craft Fair will be coming to Austin on May 15-16 at the Palmer Event Center. Austin Craft Mafia will have an interactive booth where we’ll show you how to screen print using the Yudu Screen Printer. We’re teaming up with the Stitch Lab ladies who will show you how to embellish or transform your screen printed item into some even more fabulous.

So after you check out the Austin Craft Mafia booth, be sure to visit our very own Naughty Secretary Club and Sublime Stitching who will have their own booth.

Handmade Holidays are Coming…

NEW SUBLIME STITCHING PATTERNS!

Goody goody gumdrops! Sublime Stitching has new transfers for you! In plenty of time for the holidays. Unless you’re one of those crazy people who started stitching your gifts back in June. Wait, did I say “crazy”? I meant to say smart. Smart and well-organized. This lineup includes:

Jewish Symbols – Oy vey! (I’ve always wanted to say that.) Yes! We finally, finally have patterns to make bubbeh proud. Jewish friends, challah! (Mom, I’ll explain later.)

Christmastime – We figured more was more, and we couldn’t possibly cram it all on just one Winterland sheet.

Meaty Treats – My sincere apologies to our many vegetarian stitchers. No animals were harmed in the making of these patterns. Although, I’m kinda hungry now.

NEW STITCHABLE TOTE DESIGN

Boy howdy do you love our exclusive, stitchable eco-totes. We can’t hardly keep them in stock! So, I decided to begin inviting other designers to create designs for them! What, do I have to do everything around here? The newest addition to our series of stitchable totes is by Bonnie Rue of Model Citizen Clothing. We went grape-ape for her tiger-headed ladies and thought you would too. Bonnie is an independent designer based in Austin, and her design will be available for a limited time. Looks for new designs in the series! And hers is the first to be made in conjunction with Hart Crafts. You’ll just have to wait and see what that’s all about.
